The Island That Sunk 10.000 Years Ago

There was once an island right next to the Straits of Gibraltar, from the side of the Atlantic. That island sunk approximately 12.000 years ago, around 10.000 BC. And most importantly, all this has been scientifically proven. No, I am not talking about Atlantis, but rather about Spartel island. A paleoisland that sunk around the same time as Atlantis, which according to Plato was around 9.600 BC.

So, at the same period with the sinking of Atlantis, we now know for a fact that there was another - smaller - island in the Atlantic, close to the Gibraltar Straits, that sunk. What an amazing coincidence to add to our pile of countless coincidences that prove Plato was telling the truth all along. Something major happened back then to sink Spartel and that same thing could very well have had the same effect for many islands in that area.

The other interesting part with the story of Spartel island is that the water there is very shallow, as the island's highest peak is just 56 meters below sea level. Knowing this, it makes sense to assume that when Spartel sunk there was a lot of mud in that region for some time. Especially considering the fact that since then the sea level kept rising (~130 meters in total until today), which means that when Spartel sunk the sea there must have been extremely shallow. There is no doubt that when Spartel sunk, especially being so close to the Gibraltar Straits, the exit from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic was blocked with mud.

When Plato mentioned the part with the mud blocking the way to Atlantic 10.000 years ago, he could not have possibly known about Spartel. Therefore, we have one more part of Plato's story being confirmed by science. There is every reason to believe that Atlantis, along with Spartel and other islands of the Atlantic, sunk after a devastating event 12.000 years ago.
